Name: Brian Smallwood

Born February, 1955
Family: My immediate family is comprised of my wife Sharon, a son, Shawn and daughter, Kristin. We also have 2 cats, Kraze, and Techno. At one point we had the perfect yuppie scenario, 2 kids, mini van and a golden retriever. Our Golden, Brandy, was a special part of our family, and had a very full live before passing on in 2004. The extended family includes my son's significant other Nikki, 4 brothers- Jerry, Jeff, Kevin and Alan, a sister- Leslie, and my father, Jim, plus too numerous to mention nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.
Sharon is my constant balance and inspiration. She qualifies as an actual normal person, and therefore does not participate in my many obsesive activities. My son, Shawn, is a very special person, and a constant reminder of focusing on the positive. He lives at home with his girlfriend Nikki. Kristin is still growing up, is a talented artist, and currently resides in New Hampshire.

What do you enjoy about Team Kman: The fantastic team mates and caring support

Other interests/hobbies: Other than my triathlon sports, when time permits I enjoy tennis, soccer, basketball and table tennis (OK- anything sweaty). In the non-athletic area, I enjoy research- particularly on nutrition and health, photography, music
Favorite Place(s): I really enjoy adventure, so any place new is always a favorite. From the past: Favorite trail- Milford track in New Zealand, Mana Loa trail in Hawaii and Mount Robson in Canada; Favorite big city- Copenhagen, than Boston or San Francisco- honorable mention to Paris; favorite ride- Highway 1 from Monterey to Cambria, and Stunt Road/Mulholland/Yerba Buena in the Santa Monica Mountains
A Goal(s): sub 10 hour Ironman; Ironman finish at age 100 (really!); 75 year wedding anniversary; to spend some time on every continent; learn to sing
Brag Box:•••Lessons learned from triathlon helped me save my son's life. My son was in intensive care last year due to cardiac failure, and I "coached" him to a state of calmness and helped him lower his heart rate by 35 beats per minute, which at the time was the difference in surviving or not.
Cool Tidbits

•••I was the youngest and smallest boy to ever make a Pop Warner football team in Lodi (yes, stuck in Lodi)
